Blackpool's landmark attractions set to benefit from £38.9million investment
|
|
Two of Blackpool’s most iconic visitor attractions, Blackpool Tower and the Winter Gardens complex, are to get a major facelift and redevelopment as part of a groundbreaking £38.9 million project, the investment being a mixture of European, national, regional and local funding, including the NWDA.
Blackpool Council will purchase the Tower and the Winter Gardens, put the attractions in public ownership for the very first time and bring in the expertise of world-renowned leisure operator, Merlin Entertainments - operator of the London Eye and Legoland.

Atlantic Gateway Strategy launched

An historic agreement has been made to unlock the global growth potential of the Northwest and create an economic zone of international significance. The Atlantic Gateway is a vision for a sustainable economic zone including Merseyside through to north Cheshire, Chester, Halton and Warrington into Greater Manchester which will establish an area of economic growth second only to London within the UK.

Northwest Manufacturing Forum announced

The EEF’s successful Manufacturing Week has come to an end but promoting the positive image of Northwest Manufacturing continues. The NWDA has announced a new Manufacturing Forum for the Northwest. Its members will act as ambassadors for this vital Northwest sector.

Ideas have always been worth fighting for

Friday 5 March saw the official opening of the People’s History Museum in Manchester with the Rt Hon Andy Burnham MP. The museum is a unique centre which explores many of the world-changing ideas fought for by the working people of Britain and charts the history of democracy from the early 18th century to date.

NWDA aims to make super-fast broadband a reality for the Northwest

The NWDA has launched a consultation to seek feedback on a proposed strategy for making Next Generation Access (NGA) broadband a reality in the Northwest. NGA refers to a range of measures to ensure that businesses and consumers are best able to access and exploit the benefits of high-speed broadband connections.

Next phase of Liverpool’s expanding business district to be launched in Cannes
The next phase of Liverpool’s expanding business district will be launched as part of a bid to put the city in pole position for civil service or corporate relocations. Pall Mall Exchange will be unveiled at Mipim (Marché International des Professionals d’Immobilier) at Cannes, in the French Riviera.

Nuclear giants pens key deal
The owners of Lancashire's nuclear fuel factory have taken a major step towards building new reactors in the UK. Westinghouse UK, which runs the Springfields Fuels Ltd factory in Salwick, near Preston, has agreed a partnership with the Government to build a new factory which will make parts of the next generation of power stations.
