Businesses receive £650,000 in latest round of Transitional Loans

£650,000 has been awarded in the latest round of the NWDA Transitional Loan Fund, helping businesses from across the region obtain business finance in the absence of conventional commercial sources.

BSA Recycling awarded a £100,000 Grant for Research and Development

The NWDA has awarded recycling equipment manufacturer BSA Recycling a Grant for Research and Development. The £100,000 grant is to support the design and manufacture of a new product that would enable waste transfer stations to become self-sufficient in electrical energy.

Major Japanese company announces Northwest research collaboration

The NWDA has supported Japan-based manufacturer Murata Manufacturing’s decision to use researchers at University of Manchester’s School of Chemistry to further their work in the field of nanotechnology. The NWDA’s Japan-based overseas team has been working with Murata since 2007.

£7 million boost for Northwest Waste Technology Virtual Centre of Excellence II

Waste Management, Recycling and Technology industries in the Northwest are to benefit from the expansion of the Waste Technology Virtual Centre of Excellence II. The £7 million funding includes £3.8 million funding from the NWDA. The project will establish England’s Northwest as a centre of excellence for recycling and waste technologies services and innovation, providing a professional programme that promotes, supports and grows the activity in this highly competitive sector.

University of Liverpool to lead new knowledge exchange project   
A project to speed up the transfer of groundbreaking research from the Northwest Laser Engineering Consortium to the region’s businesses has been given the go ahead following the confirmation of an £882,000 investment from the Northwest ERDF Programme.

NESTA launch innovation investment scheme in Manchester    
The National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts (NESTA) is providing a total of £600,000 to 150 companies in the Northwest in order to highlight the North as an excellent area to relocate to or invest in.

Helping Apprentices Aimhigher    
A new Aimhigher Greater Manchester project is working to raising awareness of opportunities available for Apprentices who progress to Higher Education. The project aims to help Apprentices develop aspirations, awareness, confidence and motivation to progress to Higher Education.
